U16 Team Jets 2014 - 2015 Season
Sunday 19th April 2015 - Regional Finals
U16 Team Jets qualified for U16 Regional Finals after finishing in the top 4 in Division 1 of the U16 Regional League. Jets had three games against Hucclecote, Lawn and Team Bath A in a round robin style where the top two placed teams would progress to U16 National Finals. Unfortunately not everyone was available for selection due to injuries and the clash with the Inter-Insulars. Nonetheless, following a massive win over Guernsey the girls were ready for the challenge. First up were favourites and League winners Hucclecote who had been unbeaten all season. The girls went out focused and determined and Georgia Steel worked relentlessly in defence turning possession back into the favour of Team Jets. However, Team Jets struggled to transition the ball into their attacking end and Hucclecote finished the quarter 9-4 up. Following an effective team talk, Team Jets finished the game winning the final quarter 8-3 resulting in a final score of 17-33 to Hucclecote. Molly Carre had a fantastic final quarter denying space at goal keeper in her U16 debut only allowing three goals to pass through the Jets defence. Next up were Lawn who Jets had lost to on both occasions in the League matches. Jets went out strong and took the early lead with the shooters Shauna Danvill and Steph Wellman working hard to score from the Jets possession. With only one turnover separating the teams at the interval, Jets came out with fire in their bellies. The Lawn attack struggled to get the ball into their goal shooter with keeper Gabby Martin made frequent interceptions. Brodie Spence and Rebecca Forrest created some clever feeds into the Jets shooters. End to end netball resulted in the score still being even by the third interval - 21 each. Jets stepped up and dominated the final quarter winning the game 27-23. Bali Eden applied immense pressure on the Lawn Wing Attack limiting their options adding to a panic by Lawn whilst Jets kept calm under pressure. Due to the results of the Finals, whoever won the last match between Team Bath A and Team Jets would finish in second place and be awarded a place in National Finals. The first half was even with both teams leaving nothing on the court. However, Bath edged the lead 17-12 at half time. Jets crumbled in the third quarter with too many unforced errors resulting in only two shots at goal and a crushing 13 goals scored by Team Bath to only 1 of Jets. Knowing the game was slipping away the Jersey girls demonstrated great team spirit and passion in the last quarter. Mollie Luce provided a fantastic quarter shutting down the Lawn attack. Jets won the last quarter 7-6 but the final score was 36-20 to Team Bath A. |
After the match Coach Chrissy Bannerman said ‘I am very proud of the girls finishing third, although it was a shame to miss out on Nationals by such a close margin. The girls can hang their heads high being the third best U16 club team in the South West of England’.

U16 Team Jets Qualify for Regional Finals!!!!
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March 2015 U16 Team Jets have competed against the top seven Under 16 teams in the South West of England in Division 1 of the U16 Regional League. The girls played their final games at the weekend. Jets first met Ferndown on Saturday. A cautious start by both teams led to numerous turnovers in play and a one goal lead at the end of the first quarter. Bali Eden created defensive pressure on a dominant Wing Attack, limiting the Ferndown attacking options. Jets played with more confidence in the second quarter allowing the shooting partnership of Shauna Danvill and Tallula Norman more opportunities at goal extending the lead 20-13 at half time. Brodie Spence came on at centre for the penultimate quarter and provided a key link through the court taking the score to 31-18. A final big effort from the Jersey girls pushed Jets to 38-23 at the final whistle. Zara Johnston worked relentlessly defending Ferndown’s shooting circle in her debut U16 appearance. Team Jets faced Team Bath A the following day. Bath were one place higher than Jets in the league and the girls knew it was going to be a tough, physical match. Team Jets went out focused and determined from the first whistle. Early turnovers by Gabby Martin and Georgia Steel resulted in Jets taking an early lead. However, Bath responded with a run of goals unanswered, finishing 11 goals up to 6 at the end of the first quarter. Rebecca Forrest opened up options in attack providing a good transition into the Jets half. A closely contested quarter ended 23-14 to Bath. Following the half time break, Jets demonstrated great team spirit and fight. Claudia Andrade turned possession into the Jets favour with some fantastic interceptions. A change in the final line up saw Libby Rothwell play Wing Attack and Tallula Norman step into Centre. The tactic proved fruitful with an increased number of balls making it to the Jets shooting circle. However, Bath also stepped up their game and finished 51-33 ahead. |
After the matches Coach Chrissy Bannerman said ‘We had a great weekend of netball. Despite the score against Bath, there was only a 4 or 5 goal difference between each quarter and the girls fought to the final whistle. I am very proud of the girls performances and the weekend results have secured their place at Regional Finals on the 19th April’.

U16 Team Jets played a double header fixture in Exeter at the weekend against Exeter and Cornwall Saints. Both of the opposing teams are currently lower than Team Jets in the league and the Jersey girls had beaten both teams earlier in the season. However, the squads were not to be underestimated in skill with Saints being able to field a stronger line up than when Jets previously played them. Not everyone was available for selection with Captains and key players missing.
Jets first met Exeter on Sunday morning and took the early advantage, with Sadie Ruellan causing Exeter’s attack difficulties in getting the ball into their shooting circle. Jets won the first quarter 9-7. The second quarter saw a change in the lead and Exeter’s through court defence caused Jets to make errors. However, in the defensive circle both Georgia Steele and Gabriella Martin remained strong and fought hard for rebounds and interceptions. Unfortunately Exeter appeared stronger in their third quarter turning over Jets possession and not missing a single shot, extending the score to 32-21. Jets went into the fourth quarter more motivated after making some changes, bringing Bali Eden on to create an effective link between defence and attack showing exceptional skill and energy. Final score was a substandard 44-30 to Exeter. After only a 45 minute break, the Jersey girls faced Cornwall Saints. Following underperforming in the first game, the girls flew out of the blocks with a very impressive start. A new shooting combination of Natasha Forrest as goal shooter and Tallula Norman at goal attack clicked into place converting Team Jets efforts into goals. Libby Rothwell provided some clever feeds into the shooting partnership outwitting the Saints defenders. Jets continued to pull away in the second quarter with Claudia Andrade beating her defender onto the ball delivering possession into the Jets attacking third. Claudia particularly produced a strong performance in her first weekend representing Team Jets since recovering from a knee operation. The final quarter saw Steph Wellman return to shooter and provided different options in the shooting circle linking up well with Brodie Spence at centre. Jets stayed ahead the whole game and finished 36-33 ahead. After a disappointing first game when the girls did not reach their potential and lacked drive, Jets finished on a high with a convincing second game and a fantastic team performance. Gabriella Martin was awarded player of the match for gaining an impressive amount of turnovers out of Saint’s shooting circle. |

U16 Team Jets travelled away this weekend to play top of the league Hucclecote and the Lawn. Despite a great performance the squad lost 57-36 to Hucclecote (photo right of both the squads and coaches) but there were lots of positives to take forward into their second match. The second match was highly contested against Lawn. End to end netball resulted in a draw across three quarters with Lawn pulling away in the final quarter. The final score was 38 v 31. |

U16 Team Jets travelled to Poole on Sunday to contest in a double header fixture against Ferndown and Team Bath in the U16 Regional League. Both Team Jets and Ferndown took a while to settle in the first match with a scrappy quarter leading to neither side taking an early advantage and a first quarter score of 7-6 to Jets. Team Jets took control in the second quarter with Tallula Norman showing great game awareness through the court converting Jets lead to 20 -11 at half time. Team Jets continued full steam ahead in the third quarter with Rebecca Forrest and Brodie Spence creating accurate feeds into the shooting circle, further extending the lead 31-18. A closely matched final quarter saw Ferndown come back into the game. Zoe Pannenborg opened up the shooting circle in the final quarter providing a rotational option and end to end netball concluded in a 39-25 win to Team Jets. Team Jets next faced Team Bath. Team Jets were weakened by having to play a previous game first due to the demands of travel and also had to rest Tallula Norman through illness. Nonetheless, Team Jets demonstrated strong fighting spirit and determination with an excellent 100% shooting record from Shauna Danvill and Steph Wellman in the first quarter allowing Jets to be two points ahead at the first interval, 11-9. Libby Rothwell had an excellent match at centre showing great fitness and creative play around the circle edge; however Team Bath scored following Team Jet errors and overtook the lead 20-15 at half time. Despite numerous defensive turnovers by Sadie Ruellan, a strong Team Bath side continued to pull away in the third quarter 30-19. Team Jets demonstrated superb defensive play in the final quarter with Gabby Martin and Georgia Steel gaining valuable possession and restricting Bath’s attacking options in their shooting circle, producing a closely contested final quarter and final score of 37-23 to Team Bath. These results place Team Jets in second place at the half way stage although they have played 1-2 games more than other teams due to having to play double headers. The young Jets are still on target to finish in the top four and qualify for Regional Finals in April. Team Jets have tough upcoming games where they will meet Hucclecote and Lawn again on the 24th and 25th January, respectively and will be looking to improve on their last performances against these teams. |

Cornwall stepped up in the second quarter putting pressure on our shooting circle but Jets responded well and maintained a lead of 24-16 at half time. Jets went out determined in the third quarter. Brodie Spence controlled the ball through the court whilst Gabriella Martin and Georgia Steel prevented Cornwall from scoring opportunities. Stephanie Wellman was brought on in the final quarter and demonstrated an accurate shooting rate of 100%. After a superb final quarter of set plays, Team Jets stormed to victory 54-23. Jets next met Exeter on Sunday. Captain Rebecca Forrest and Libby Rothwell created an excellent link through the attack placing the ball into the shooting circle. Team Jets took the lead 16-8. Jets maintained the lead in the second quarter. Sadie Ruellan worked relentlessly in defence gaining valuable possession. The Jersey girls took the pedal of the gas in the third quarter and let Exeter into the game. Unforced errors and missed attacking opportunities let Exeter take the quarter 13-9. U16 Team Jets had their first matches in Division 1 of the U16 Regional League on Sunday and provided great performances against two of the top teams in the Division.
Team Jets first met Lawn. The game was fast with both teams trying to take an early advantage. Shooters Shauna Danvill and Tallula Norman started strong providing a good partnership in the circle leading to Jets being up 12-10 after the first quarter. Unfortunately Team Jets had a tough second quarter where Lawn broke down Jets play and forced errors. A deflated Jets came out 16-22 down at half time.
Team talk was influential and Jets regained structure in the third quarter. The defensive partnership of Gabby Martin and Georgia Steel dominated the opposition’s circle and allowed Jets to gain valuable turnovers pulling the game back to 29 each at the end of the third quarter. The last quarter was a fierce battle of end to end netball with neither team wishing to give up. Sadie Ruellan obtained some fantastic interceptions in defence and Steph Wellman and Libby Rothwell provided a key link in attack playing the ball into the shooters. However, Lawn came out on top on the final whistle 33-36; the damage had been done in the second quarter.
Team Jets next met Huccelcote who had won the opening tournament beating Team Jets by a single goal. Team Jets went out hard from the blocks knowing the battle ahead was going to be tough. Chloe Besant provided some excellent circle feeds into the shooters and the first quarter was close with Hucclecote edging the lead 12-10 at quarter time. Team Jets again had a tough second quarter with Hucclecote defending fiercely down the court and opportunities missed in the shooting circle. Hucclecote extended their lead to 14-24 at half time.
Team Jets won the third quarter closing the gap to 24-32 following some creative play throughout the court from Captain Rebecca Forrest. Unfortunately, Team Jets looked tired in the last quarter following two very physical tough games. Team Jets frequently have to play double headers due to the cost of travel. Hucclecote had a run of unanswered goals to finish the game 47 goals to 30.

U16 Team Jets have had a fantastic day playing their final double header of the Regional League Division 1 against Poole and then Bournemouth. Poole were the team to beat given that they had beaten Hucclecote and with the latter loosing last weekend to Saints it made this a must win fixture to make the top two in the South West!! First up was Poole who were unbeaten going into the match. The Jersey girls knew it was going to be a tough and physical fixture. An evenly matched first quarter saw Jets take the lead 13-12. Jets came out determined with Sadie Ruellan showing great tracking to deny her player space, however Poole capitalised on Jets errors and led by 5 at half time, 26-21. The defensive duo of Vice Captain Ebony Troy and Jodie Blampied worked hard turning balls over in the defensive circle which allowed Team Jets to bring the score back to 33 each at the end of the third quarter. Team Jets stepped up in attack in the last quarter knowing a place at National Finals rested on the game result. Shooters, Hannah Holley and Rachel Hayden adopted a faster paced rotational game working the ball round the circle leading Jets to a well deserved win of 47 goals to 43. It was tactical changes which made the difference in the final two quarters, shooters exploiting the defence in the shooting circle and defensive reading the game to intercept ball at the other end of the court. Captain Anya Le Monnier was instrumental all over the court and Paige Lawson finished off some fine explosive court drives with precision balls to her shooters. Hannah Holley was awarded player of the match. The squad next faced Bournemouth. It was a routine game for this talented squad. Gabby Martin and Claudia Andrade and Becca Forrest took to the court with their established team mates and were soon busy in the game. Bournemouth struggled to contend with the speed and accuracy of the jets play. It was a fine performance with Rachel Hayden being awarded pom for her shooting and dominant attacking play. In an impressive win the final score was 74-36. Jets have matured over the season and it was a fitting way to end their league campaign. Now the hard work starts in preparation for nationals in May. |
