Under 16 team Jets travelled away to Taunton and Exeter to face Galmington and Plymstock today. First up was Galmington. The squad started strongly taking an early lead with accurate shooting from Captain GS Sophie Harvey. Excellent feeds into the circle from WA Nicole Hamilton and C Evie James allowed Jets to dominate with a score line of 38 v 13 at half time. Changes at the half way point saw the addition of GS Brody Morris into the circle which provided a great partnership with GA Lily Jones (POM). Both players consistently netted their chances with only 3 misses between them in the 3rd quarter. Score 56 v24. Great off the ball defence from WD Milly Le Chevalier and great through court linkage ensured that Jets maintained a strong lead throughout. Final score 66 v 35 to Team Jets. After travelling to Exeter the team played Plymstock who proved to be a much more physical opposition. After scoring off our opening centre pass they took a 4 v1 lead. To Jets credit they pressured the ball across the court coming back to create a 2 goal lead. First quarter 11 v 9. The second quarter saw the defensive combination of GK Natacha Searson, GD Bella Valeur-Adu and WD Gabby Scott dictate the flow of the game. Restricting Plymstock’s attack and producing numerous turnovers. This left Jets winning 21 v 15 at half time. Plymstock came out fighting in the 3rd quarter taking the first 4 goals unanswered. Hardwork from the team saw them again reduce the gap leaving the quarter running goal for goal. The quarter finished with Jets taking the last goal for a 31 v 30 lead. A thrilling final quarter had everyone on the edge of their seats. Excellent movement and driving onto the ball from WA Maddie Fitzgerald-Wilkins created opportunities for GA Lily Jones to convert giving Jets a 4 goal lead. However Plymstock were quick to up their game and again the game went goal for goal. A final push from Jets allowed them to take the last 2 goals to ensure a well-earned draw. A fair result for both teams. Final score 40 v 40. Coach Chrissy Bannerman said after the matches “It has been fantastic to have different combinations which demonstrates the strength throughout the long squad. Congratulations to Bella who played up from the U14s and was a key player in our success. We are still undefeated which is a great position to be in going into the Christmas break.”
