U14 Team Jets gained a place at U14 Regional Playoffs travelling on the 27th March to Paignton Academy.
U14’s first game was against a strong Titans Stars side. Jets struggled to find their groove and it was goal for goal. Jets picked up the second half and the connections on court were strong and they began to capitalise on the fantastic turnovers from defence. The first game went Jets way 23-17
Second game was against a very physical Cowick Pumas team. Initially Jets struggled with the physicality and went down 2 goals. After re-grouping the squad went back on with real determination. Annie Brownrigg and Annabelle Williams worked tirelessly to deny balls to the Cowick shooters & Grace and Lara consistently found the net. A nail-biting few final minutes and the end result was a draw. 23-23.
The final game was against Dart Strike, impact players were brought on and immediately brought a new energy to the game. They scored 7 unanswered goals in the first quarter to give them a comfortable lead. In the second half Jets began to tire and Dart capitalised on our errors. The squad dug deep and finished the game with a 27-12 win
The end result went on goal difference. Jets narrowly missed out on 1st place by 2 goals. They secured 2 wins and a draw, what an incredible day (winners in our eyes). The whole squad gave it there all and have finished their regional season on a high. We (Lauren & Ella) are so so proud of this amazing squad and their work rate and performance today.
Opponents player of the match for EVERY game went to our captain fantastic Isabella Lofthouse. Issy dominated throughout the court and got 18 tips and 10 interceptions. On top of this Isabella controlled the pace of the game, had brilliant vision into the shooters and kept up the intensity through all 3 games.
Players player of the tournament was awarded to Molly McKeon. Molly played WD and consistently kept her WA out of the game, dictating space and shutting down the WA’s drives to the circle edge. She brought the ball through court and was always there as a back up option. The resilience Molly showed today against some very tough and very physical was admirable. She is the definition of small and mighty!
Well done to the whole squad who have finished off a fantastic season finishing equal 1st and 2nd on goal difference by just 2 goals.
