With a new look Squad, Team Jets embarked on their second year in the Mizuno Premier League Two but sadly couldn't hit the ground running. Despite only taking 3 wins and a draw Coach Linda Andrews is still keen to take lots of positives from a demanding season.
Their final match defeat at second-placed Premier Romans coupled with (just above them in the table) Kent County’s victory at Ryland meant the team sadly didn't get the chance to save themselves at play offs and find themselves finishing in the automatic relegation position at the bottom of the table. With lots of younger players earning their first caps this season, including Tallulah Norman and Paige Lawson, however it will be an exciting squad to watch next Season when they will play in the Mizuno Premier League Three. Despite a mix of results Under 16 Team Jets have done enough to earn their place at Regional Play-Offs.
They lost to league leaders Hucclecote Flames 20 v 39, Drew against close table rivals Peeks 24 v 24 and gained a convincing win against West Exe 35 v 23. The side will face Team Bath, TTNC Spartans and Hucclecote to fight for a place in the National Finals. It has been a steep learning curve for the Under 14 Team Jets squad of whom less than half had had previous exposure at this level last season. The squad have worked incredibly hard in training and this has shown on court with the teams results improving each time.
By coming home with 3 wins in their final weekend the team have a lot to be proud of even if they didn't reach Regional Play-Offs. Team Jets suffered a big defeat away to Chester leaving only one point between them at Kent County who are currently sitting at the bottom of the Mizuno Premier League Two table.
Despite a good performance Team Jets were unable to make an impact against Chester who are chasing a top 3 finish this season and lost 54 v 32. Jets did however earn a much needed point for a half score, but Kent gained an extra point for finishing within 5 goals of their opposition. The result leaves their home match against Linden next weekend as a crucial must win game. Please come and support the squad! Team Jets travelled away to play Kent County today but suffered their 8th defeat of the season loosing 49 v 36.
The match also saw the end of Captain and GD Lauren Devine's season as she went off on the first quarter with an ankle injury. With definite ankle ligament damage and possible bone damage it is a massive lost for Team Jets who are 15 points away from safety. Sadly Team Jets suffered a 6th defeat today after giving away their first quarter lead to Premier Romans who are hoping for promotion to Mizuno Premier League One.
After a poor second quarter where passing accuracy was lacking the home side were left with too much to do, and the game was all but over by half time. "It’s frustrating because the game was within our reach," said captain Devine. "We’ve only got ourselves to blame for basic passing errors. To be honest there’s no excuse for that at Premier League level. You can’t be passing balls into defenders’ hands or giving balls away. Had we reduced those errors we could have had another bonus point for being within five – if not closer.’ Team jets now sit in the bottom 3 and are facing relegation. Well done to the U14 and U16 Team Jets sqauds who travelled away for 3 fixtures each. A tall order for the young sides, they both started with looses; The U14 Team Jets squad to Huccelcote 12 v 20 and the U16s to Team Bath 24 v 33.
Things however improved with both sides winning their second matches: The U14s against Bath Cougars 20 v 16 and the U16s against Poole 27 v 20. It was the younger of the two sides however who managed to continue thier winning ways beating West Exe 19 v 14 in their final match but sadly the U16s were beaten by TTNC 26 v 35. Well done to all the girls who have travelled away and worked so hard. Team Jets welcomed Clan today and with the home side wearing their blue dresses they took the lead after the first quarter 14 v 8. The second quarter saw an unsteady 15 minutes for both sides however Jets were able to maintain their lead and at half time the score was 22 v 18. In an exciting start to the second half Jets gained some well-timed interceptions at with a quarter to go were winning 31 v 26.The unchanged team went on to take a well deserved win 42 v 35. Under 16 Team Jets took 2 great wins from their triple header today, sadly loosing their last match to Team Bath.
