It was a tough game against a well drilled Romans team. From the start, tall strong defence caused Jets problems to find the best pass to Leah (GS) and Rosie (GS). Hope slotted in well as WD making crucial interception on the centre pass. Nicole stepped up as GK in place of injured Josie and worked hard to link with Molly (GD).
The tempo was high throughout Q2 however Jets were on the back foot and struggling to find the best option through the court to their shooters. Maddy replaced Tallula at C mid way through to counter. For Q3, big changes were made for impact: Jacy (C), Maddy (WA), Nicole (WD) and Katie (GK). Jets were keen to reverse the power of play. Nicole settled into familiar WD position and Jacy formed a steady link between defence and attack. It was still hard work getting balls into the shooters but openings were starting to develop. Leah exited the circle to create more space and Rosie was relentless in exploiting the space and putting up her shots. Katie began to reap the rewards of forcing the GS onto the goal line and balls went out of court. Tallula replaced Maddy at WA. Jets found ways to counteract the Romans attack, ending Q3 in a draw 14 - 14. The fight back was on in Q4. Molly (GD) came into her own - making her classic interceptions which the attack used wisely and the gap began to lessen. Unfortunately key decisions and unforced errors didn’t always reward the immense Jets defensive pressure but Jets ended winning Q4 14-9. It was a difficult game with forced positional changes but always lessons to be learned. From the get go, Leah (GS) ruled the shooting circle and gave clear options for Jacy (WA) and Hope (C) to feed. Jets brought clear principles from Thursday training into the match which added lots of variety to the centre pass attack. A great start from Jets finishing the quarter 17 - 10.
The second quarter saw Jets rule all areas of the court, applying pressure and making clinical decisions to goal. Rosie (GA) was impressive not only in attack but also making critical interceptions. Josie (GK) was dominating the defence circle until she went over on her ankle and painfully had to leave the court. Katie Doyle Jets no 51 took to the court as replacement GK and came out with her classic impressive interceptions! Tallula entered the game in the third quarter at C and quickly settled into her stride using her speed and insight to feed Rosie and Leah. Molly (GD) and Nicole (WD) were influential in denying Mavericks shooting opportunities. Katie (GK) had the better of her shooter and forced balls off the goal line. The final quarter saw Lottie Howe (GS) and Maddy Fitzgerald-Wilkins (WA) enter the game and continue to produce a consistent performance. Overall it was a very physical encounter with Mavericks mistiming their challenges which unfortunately lead to a stop start game. Jets controlled their emotions and in turn controlled the attacking plays. It was a great team performance all round with everyone taking to the court! Opponents chosen player of the match: Josie Le Masurier (GK) for her defensive flare, pressure and je ne sais quoi! Player’s chosen player of the match: Rosie Tonner (GA) for her impressive work in not only attacking play but also her defensive work! Q1: 17-10 Q2: 36-19 Q3: 48-26 Q4: 58-39 Our team photo was taken sat around Josie and her lovely swollen, bruised ankle - wishing her a speedy recovery !! The Channel Islands Sports Personality Rising Star for 2021 is Jersey netballer Lily Jones.
In a major breakthrough season for the goal shooter she made her debut in the Netball Superleague for Team Bath and was invited to the England Roses academy long squad. Lily started her netball journey with the Jersey U11s before working her way through the Jersey Academy set up and into the Team Jets squad before moving to Team Bath to commit to the Superleague and England Netball pathway. Congratulations - we are so proud of you!! What a day for U14 Team Jets! Winning 2 from 2!
Jets faced Galmington for their first game of the day. After a shaky start the squad settled well and in the first quarter our amazing C Isabella took 6 interceptions and 6 tips. The squad continued to gel well and the 3rd quarter changes brought a new intensity to the game. Galmington came back firing in the final quarter but the final score was 52-22 to Jets with an amazing 37 tips and 28 interceptions All 11 players took to the court and Isabella Lofthouse was awarded OPOM for her outstanding performance at C After a short break our second game of the day was against a strong Dart Side. Jets were not used to the fast pace and physicality that Dart brought. Our defence worked tirelessly and constantly got hand to ball and our shooters consistently found the net. The Dart defence were difficult to get around and after a few errors from our Jets side our mid court players found a way around them with intelligent circle feeds and resetting the ball. The score did not reflect the intensity and competitiveness of this game. Our U14’s took the win 41-23 OPOM was awarded to our super goal shooter Grace Thomson An incredible day with a talented squad, well done! DOUBLE WIN WEEKEND FOR SENIOR JETS!!
It was a tough physical encounter against Exeter. Jets allowed Exeter to unsettle them and began to be hesitant on the ball. The Exeter defence continually denied space which reduced feeding options and resulted in the shooters losing confidence. Second quarter jets began to take some control back winning the quarter 13-9. Confidence in our principles made strong plays, centre pass options to goal and man on through court defence. Third quarter was a tense affair. Shooters were once again under immense pressure and uncharacteristically began to miss shots. The defensive unit of Becca, Molly and Nicole were relentless and continually provided turnovers to give ball to the attack unit. It took three quarters for jets to work out Exeter but work them out they did! The final quarter saw jets in total control. The defenders were flying, shutting down Exeter shooters and now the attack were rewarding their efforts. Timing was spot on, confidence was high and the game was flowing. Kirsty and Jacy were linking well. Shooters were back on form, options were endless which resulted in Jets winning the final quarter 20-7! Q1: 8-9 Q2: 21-18 Q3: 27-25 Q4: 47-33 Opponents chosen player of the match: Becca Forrest (GK) Player’s player Of the match : Kirsty Ludlam (C) WIN FOR SENIOR JETS!
After a few nervous passes and thrown away balls by both sides in the opening minutes, Jets found their flow and began to produce some lovely play. Shooters Leah and Rosie created great spaces which could be fed effectively by Kirsty and Jacy. Becca and Nicole racked up an amazing total of 10 tips, rebounds and interceptions which Jets capitalised on to win the first quarter 18-10. Second quarter was slightly more contested (14-9), with Jets losing focus and play becoming scrappy. They did however remain in control and once again found trust in each other (wise words from Linda took on board). Third quarter saw the dynamic introduction of impact players Maddy to WA, Kat to WD and Josie to GK. Jets stepped up a gear and Bath couldn't answer to the shooters circle craft and throughout court fluidity! Amazing third quarter (22-7)! Last quarter was a draw however the damage was really done in Q3 which allowed new combinations to consolidate (and make errors in doing so!) Fantastic team effort from the girls! Senior Jets were cheered on enthusiastically by our Under 14s who were treated to an exciting, dynamic spectacle! Q1 - 18-10 Q2 - 32 - 19 Q3 - 54-26 Q4 - 69-41 Opponents chosen player of the match: Molly Carre Player's chosen player of the match: Leah Griffin and Becca Forrest |
