IN the end it felt like a victory, so unexpected was the brilliant 41-41 draw Team Jets achieved against a powerful Chester side at Fort Regent. In an exciting first quarter with big interceptions from both teams, Chester lead 7 v 12 but with a run of goals for the visitors followed by the homeside gaining a run of goals the quarter score was level leaving the match score at 16 v 22. Mis-firing in attack at times, with the final ball often going astray and recently returning GS Sophie Holmes taking time to settle into the team’s rhythm. It never looked possible for the side to close the deficit. Jersey trailed throughout after having scored the first point through Lynsey Pitman. With the score in the 3rd quarter reduced to 4 goals the crowd was lifted and the homeside went on to win this 3rd quarter to continue to apply pressure. In a thrilling last 15 minutes saw the Jets edge in front fpr the first and only time (39 v 38) near the death, but the match ended at 41 a piece. The Jets certainly fully-deserved the standing ovation they received from their ecstatic support at the final whistle. Head coach Linda Andrews said: ‘It does feel like a win; the girls were just gradually pulling it back, but in that third quarter we just couldn’t break the six-point deficit for so long. Then we got back to within four and the defence were consistently winning possession – I’m delighted to get this draw.' Player of the match goes to Amanda Evans (Chester) and Jacy Brown (Team Jets). The Mizuno Match Award goes to Jets Josie Le Masurier.
