Under 16 Team Jets travelled away this weekend to play Exeter and St Agnes in the Under 16 Regional League. First up was Exeter who came out strong with excellent shooting. It took a little while for Jets to settle with the team needing to work hard to regain and maintain possession. After losing the lead, Jets managed to take a 2 goal advantage by the end of the first quarter with WD Kiah Kuppe applying defensive pressure to create turnover opportunities. With ever increasing accuracy GA Lily Jones helped her team to keep a slim lead over Exeter; 25 v 21 at half time. With half time changes Lily Brewster swapped in and showed great determination in the WD bib to win ball and support the through court attack. Player of the match Molly Carre showed impressive defensive prowess in the circle gaining and assisting in multiple turnovers allowing Jets to win the game 53 v 45. The second match was against St Agnes. With a stronger start the team quickly racked up 7 goals without reply. However a scrappy passage of play allowed the opposition to start to catch up. Jets replied by upping their game and great feeds into the circle by WA Maddie Fitzgerald-Wilkins and Centre Kirsty Ludlam ensured opportunity to take a 16 v 5 lead at the end of the first quarter. With controlled decision making, Gabby Scott (coming in at Centre) steered Jets to extend their lead by half time to 30 v 13. Shooters Brody Morris and Sophie Harvey showed impressive confidence and accuracy in the 3rd quarter missing only one shot each pushing the team to win the quarter 19 goals to 3 as GK Natacha Searson supplied numerous turnovers. Jets lead 49 v 16 going into the last quarter. Showing great versatility Player of the Match Kiah Kuppe excelled in Centre, WD and GD, applying pressure throughout the court to ensure Jets extended their lead and win 60 v 24.
